China sourcing trade shows: October fairs tips
China sourcing trade shows such as Global sources, MEGA SHOW, Canton fair… connect millions of buyers with dozens of thousands of suppliers at the same place at the same time. This includes manufacturers, trading and third party quality control companies! Time is precious during those fairs, that’s why it is important to come well prepared.
Tips for China Sourcing trade shows
- Define the areas to visit by priority
The China sourcing trade shows are so big, it is almost impossible to visit them entirely. Hopefully they are well organized in Hong Kong and in Guangzhou. Buyers can register in advance, online and check the information about the fairs exhibitors. It allows to prepare the trip before arrival in China (if we are based overseas). Otherwise, it is just a question of stopping by the first information center at the exhibition hall. They provide the fair catalog with the product categories per areas, suppliers’ names and booth numbers. They also provide QR codes for interesting products!
- Smart information collection
Many visitors come with an empty suitcase to collect catalogs, brochures and other documents. To travel lighter, others use their camera or smartphone to take pictures of the relevant information. All notes are taken on a tablet or a notepad for future follow up. This second method is the most suitable especially in case buyers who plan to visit their suppliers or potential suppliers factories later on.
- Business cards
A minimum of 150-200 business cards are necessary during the China sourcing trade shows. Very often buyers need to print more, that’s why it is fairly easy to find business card printing shops nearby the fairgrounds. It is part of the Asian culture to exchange business cards, all buyers should take it seriously. The article “The art of giving business cards in China” explains it and gives good suggestions!
- Dress freely
Hong Kong and Guangzhou are two cities with high humidity levels and warm temperature. October tends to be dryer and cooler than April but expect 25-30°C. Buyers have to be ready for all kind of temperature, it can be warm outside and very cold inside due to the air conditioning. The exhibition centers are usually very big therefore it requires to walk a lot. It is better to wear some comfortable shoes and clothes in order to survive more than a day.
And you: what are your secrets so that the China sourcing trade shows are the most profitable and enjoyable?
