New “Bill of Landing” Scam
Vendors have always tried to get the buyer’s attention with extra-low prices. After the first payment is done, new costs arise for many reasons. In this case, an increase of 50% was communicated only when the goods had been shipped and arrived in Europe. The vendor did not release the B/L until the surcharge was paid – the scam had been planned for months. Read more

QC: OK to be picky – but be professional
It is important to define defects, standards and tolerances in the purchasing order. The objective is to make sure that the supplier understands exactly what the buyer want – and what the buyer does not want. This has to happen before production starts. Official: Supplier blacklist released!
Chinese courts have finally published a list of all individuals and companies that have defaulted on court-ordered payments. Although the list is very long, it’s far from complete – most scammers only exist for a few months (that’s why it is important to always check in the business registry before trying a new supplier!). Nevertheless, a check on the potential partner history is also necessary. Read more
