The AQL table is made of two different inspection levels for a specific order quantity. The difference between the two is clear. For a specific order quantity, the sample size of one is very reduced compared to the other.

  • General inspection level: sample size from 2 to 2,000 pieces
  • Special inspection level: sample size from 2 to 125 pieces

The general sample size is applied by the inspector to the workmanship of the products inspected. The defects are listed and taken into account in the AQL result in the inspection report.

Special inspection level of the AQL table

The special sample size is applied by the inspector when checking the products manufactured with respect to the customer's other requirements. It includes the product measurements and weights, packaging, labeling and more, as well as all the in-site tests.

Who determines the general and special inspection levels of the AQL table?

The buyer is responsible for defining the general and special sample sizes for the QC. Otherwise, the usual and standard inspection protocol is used. Each QC or third party company has its own inspection protocol. It includes the general and special inspection levels applied to each details of the inspection checklist. It is also very usual to mention each sample sizes applied for each check-point in the inspection report.
